Consolite Technology

Consolite Technology is a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of night vision lighting technology with over 40 years naval and aerospace experience. Consolite specialises in advanced lighting design and test and has become the authority in lighting for Naval applications world-wide. Consolite has particular expertise in Night Vision Device (NVD) compatible lighting and in more recent years, the capability to offer complete internal and external lighting packages across the entire naval platform.

Consolite have extensive test capabilities, with a brand-new onsite test facility that opened in 2022, as well as the ability to certify compliance to the Def-STAN 02-587 Pt 3, of which they are the authors. All products pass through a rigorous series of qualification tests to international standards to ensure they are suited to the stresses of the naval environment. Interior and exterior products meet, as a minimum, the Lloyd’s Register requirements and undergo standard tests of Shock, Vibration, Climate Exposure, EMC, Electrical and Ingress Protection.

Consolite performs lighting upgrades by replacing legacy lights with new LED lighting, benefiting from higher reliability and lower power consumption, as well as NVG compliance. Consolite has developed a range of LED navigation lights with the unique capability of NVG compatibility whilst retaining full COLREG compliance.

The company successfully bid for the UK Type 31 frigate lighting system and provide every light on the ship apart from visual landing aids. All are LED based and fulfil all required functions on the ship.

Consolite’s latest development is the design and manufacture of military LiFi communication systems, which are currently being trialled by multiple agencies across the country. LiFi (Light Fidelity) is a method of transferring data using light, and a rapidly developing technology with many advantages over WiFi. Consolite is at the forefront of developing ruggedised military applications for Naval and ground forces, providing fast data rates for ship or command centre use and allows connectivity in a way that hasn’t been experienced before.

Our other exciting new development is the Smart Lighting System. This integrated lighting package will allow users to control lighting modes area by area from a central location, such as the Bridge, with full IPMS integration if required. For example, switching between: Bright and dim settings, Dark adaptation, darken ship (stealth), NVG mode for night flying operations, emergency lighting and Circadian rhythm settings. The latter is important for crew health and well being, especially those who see little exposure to daylight – colour temperature and brightness can be automatically adjusted according to time of day and ambient levels.
